What is three-dimentional lower jaw reduction?
Earlier lower jaw reduction procedure required resection of protruding mandicular jaw angles and side cortical bone. Three-dimentional lower jaw reduction surgery does not require such procedure; we minimize the procedure of jaw reduction by simply making a single, well placed cut on the jawbone instead of making several cuts and creating additional angle to the jawbone.
- Anesthesia : general anesthesia
- Operation time : 1 hour
- Stitch removal : no need (absorbable thread) clinic visit 2~3 times
- Initial recovery : daily activity after 1 week
We recommend lower jaw reduction surgery to patients with
1. Jaws that are broader than cheekbones (for those whose cheekbone:jaw proportion exceeds 1:0.7)
2. Broad chin
3. Pointed jaw angles when viewed from the front
4. Flat jawlines when viewed from the side
5. Pointed jaw angles (angles near 90 degrees) when viewed from the side
Procedure of lower jaw reduction procedure
Lower jaw angle resection
Lower jaw angle, or mandibular angle, is located at the posterioir border at the junction of the lower border of the lower jaw. The more pointed the lower jaw angle, the better the results of jaw angle resection. The procedure removes the angulated part of the lower jaw, smoothing out the jawline and reducing the distance between the nose and the jaw angle so that your face looks slimmer when viwed from the front and the side. It is crucial to carefully map out the procedure beforehand, deciding how much resection you want
Cortical bone resection
Regular lower jaw reduction surgery may not reduce the width of the jaw as much as expectation. In such case, we recommend partial removal of cortical bone. By removing the outermost layer of bone of the lower jaw, we can reduce the size of your jaw to 1/3 of its original size. Resection of the cortical bone not only minimizes the size of the lower jawbone but also reduces the muscle
